We are a mother-and-son illustration team. Our drawings are hand-drawn and traced in the computer. Our goal is to help Substackers illustrate their publications with fun and simple drawings. We’re trying to restore the human creativity that is being lost from the progression of technology and AI.
"Pigpen is a human soil bank who raises a cloud of dust on a perfectly clean street and passes out gum drops that are invariably black."
—Charles M. Schulz
Tutorial

Step 1: With a pencil, start by drawing a guide circle. Divide the circle into 4 quadrants with 2 perpendicular lines.
Step 2: Using the guides, draw Pigpen’s head and face. At this point, he looks a lot like Charlie Brown, but wait…

Step 3: Add his hair.
Step 4: Draw his neck and a slightly curved line for his collar. From his collar line, draw two lines on either side. These will become his arms.

Step 5: Draw his sleeves.
Step 6: Draw his jumper.

Step 7: Add in his hands.
Step 8: Draw his legs, socks, and shoes. What a clean and neat kid! We’re not done yet.

Step 9: The fun part—doodle in dirt lines all over his body.
Step 10: Draw the ground.

Step 11: Draw curved lines for dirt puffs.
Step 12: Add in some speckles and lines in the dirt.

Done! Good grief. Your doodle is finished. We’d love to see your drawings in our subscriber’s chat.
Color Pigpen: Add some color to your drawing.
"Being dirty is much more pratical… I’m never bothered by girls or mosquitoes."
—Pigpen

This is so fun.
Fun, fun, fun. It's always a highlight to pull out some paper and doodle from the AJ Doodles tutorials, guys. I will hopefully share some of my CB drawings in your chat soon.
