We are a mother and son illustration team. Our drawings are hand-drawn and traced in the computer. Our goal is to help Substackers illustrate their publications with fun and simple drawings. We’re trying to restore the human creativity that is being lost from the progression of technology and AI.
Thank you Jack Harmer the Wrinkly Writer for recommending PEANUTS character tutorials.
“Charlie Brown must be the one who suffers, because he’s a caricature of the average person. Most of us are much more acquainted with losing than winning. Winning is great, but it isn’t funny.” —Charles M. Schulz
Tutorial

Step 1: With a pencil, start by drawing a circle. Divide the circle into 4 quadrants with 2 perpendicular guidelines.
Step 2: Add ears on the ends of the horizontal guideline.

Step 3: Outline the head around the circle. Do not close off the circle between the left ear and head.
Step 4: Draw in the facial details. Nose in the center of the guidelines, eyes on both sides of the nose, a single strand of hair, and a large smile. Once finished, erase the guidelines.

Step 5: With a pencil, draw 2 more circles for a guides.
Step 6: Add the neck and Charlie Brown’s V-shaped collar.

Step 7: From the collar, outline his shirt inside the top guide circle. Make the shape of his torso triangular.
Step 8: Add an arm and hand as shown.

Step 9: Color in his shorts and the iconic zigzag on his shirt.
Step 10: Draw the shoes inside the bottom guide circle.

Step 11: Add legs, socks, and laces.
Step 12: Doodle in some grass.
